Cairo, Egypt – January 11, 2025
Somali Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi participated in the second session of the Joint Trilateral Ministerial Committee in Cairo, alongside his counterparts from Egypt and Eritrea. The meeting, held at the invitation of Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, aimed to strengthen regional ties and implement agreements made at the Asmara Summit in October 2024.
The discussions focused on enhancing security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, with particular emphasis on Somalia’s cooperation with Egypt in peacebuilding efforts. Another key issue was Egypt’s contribution to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). Additionally, the crisis in Sudan and its impact on the region was also addressed.
Both Somalia and Eritrea expressed their full support for Egypt’s candidate, Dr. Khaled El-Anani, for the role of UNESCO Director-General, signaling unity in both regional and international matters.
