PRETORIA – Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has condemned the recent acts of gender-based violence and the disturbing use of social media by an individual who confessed to killing his girlfriend. The man recorded himself admitting to the crime and posted an image of the deceased victim online. Authorities later found the suspect dead from suicide near the scene of the crime.
Mchunu described the incident as a grim reminder of the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in South Africa. He stated that such acts of violence have no place in society and that using social media to amplify such cruelty is unacceptable.
While the suspect’s death halts immediate legal proceedings, Mchunu expressed that the impact on the victim’s family, friends, and community remains profound. He urged families to be vigilant about mental health issues and to report any concerns to social workers or other authorities promptly.
