Abuja, Nigeria – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed Germany’s full support for Nigeria’s economic reforms during a bilateral meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Abuja.

Steinmeier commended Nigeria’s ongoing economic transformation efforts and praised President Tinubu’s leadership, as well as the resilience of the Nigerian people in the face of economic challenges.

Drawing on Germany’s own experiences with past economic crises, Steinmeier shared that overcoming such difficulties requires both courage and perseverance. He assured Tinubu that Germany is committed to supporting Nigeria’s reform efforts, stressing that perseverance in times of hardship often leads to long-term success.

“I have seen it in Germany many years ago during our own deep economic crisis; it takes a lot of courage and perseverance, but it ultimately benefits the country,” Steinmeier said. “We are following your bold steps and we will stand by you.”

Following the meeting, Steinmeier is set to visit Lagos, where he will meet with business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and engage with Nigeria’s cultural and civil society figures, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka. Additionally, he will take a tour of Lagos, exploring the city’s urban development and the challenges it faces as a major megacity.
