Johannesburg, South Africa – Airlink, a prominent Southern African airline, has announced a leadership change. Rodger Foster, the airline’s CEO and Managing Director since its inception in 1992, will step down at the end of March 2025.
De Villiers Engelbrecht, currently Airlink’s Chief Financial Officer, will assume the role of CEO effective April 1, 2025. Foster will remain involved with the airline as a non-executive director and shareholder.
Foster’s tenure at Airlink has spanned over three decades, during which he guided the airline through significant industry shifts, including the deregulation of South Africa’s domestic airline industry and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It has been a privilege to lead Airlink through its journey,” Foster said. “However, after 33 years, it’s time to hand over the reins to de Villiers Engelbrecht, who has been instrumental in the airline’s success.”
Engelbrecht, with his extensive experience at Airlink, is well-positioned to lead the airline into the future. He has played a crucial role in navigating the company through various challenges, including its separation from South African Airways and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Airlink has experienced significant growth in recent years, forging partnerships with numerous international airlines and expanding its route network. The airline’s strong financial position, bolstered by a 25% equity stake acquired by Qatar Airways, positions it for continued success.
