Donald Trump has won the 2024 U.S. presidential election, marking a dramatic return to the White House after his 2020 defeat. Trump secured more than 270 Electoral College votes, surpassing his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, who struggled to gain enough support in the campaign’s final stretch.

Trump’s decisive victory in swing states, including Wisconsin, pushed him beyond the necessary electoral threshold. By early Wednesday, he had accumulated 279 electoral votes, with Harris at 223 and several states still counting.

Speaking to a cheering crowd in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump declared that Americans had given him “a powerful mandate.” His win comes despite a tumultuous presidency marked by two impeachments, multiple criminal indictments, and ongoing legal battles.

The victory was fueled by voter dissatisfaction with the economy, particularly inflation and immigration. Trump’s messaging on these issues resonated with many, including Hispanic and lower-income voters, while his loyal base of rural, white, non-college-educated voters again played a significant role in his success.

While Harris struggled to unite voters and failed to counter Trump’s populist appeal, Republicans also won control of the U.S. Senate. The battle for the House of Representatives, however, remains undecided as both parties continue to contest seats.

Trump’s return to power signals significant changes in U.S. policies, particularly concerning trade relations, immigration, and taxes. His promises to reduce corporate taxes and take a harder stance on immigration are expected to shape the national agenda during his second term.
