Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has died at the age of 56. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos after an illness, according to the statement. President Tinubu expressed his condolences, offering sympathy to Lagbaja’s family and the Nigerian Armed Forces during this difficult time.
Appointed Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, Lagbaja was known for his leadership and dedication. His military career included roles as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.
