ABUJA, Oct 23 – Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has reshuffled his cabinet, naming seven new ministers, sacking five, and reassigning 10 others, according to a spokesperson on Wednesday.
Key ministries, including finance, defence, and national planning, remained unchanged, with their ministers retaining their positions. The reshuffle also saw the Ministry of Niger Delta Development renamed to the Ministry of Regional Development, while the Ministry of Sports was dissolved. The ministries of tourism and arts and culture were merged into one.
Since taking office last year, Tinubu’s reforms initially sparked hope for economic recovery. However, 16 months in, measures such as the devaluation of the naira and the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies have driven inflation to 32.7%, worsening the cost-of-living crisis.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the appointments, which include new ministers for humanitarian and poverty reduction, trade and investment, labour, and livestock development, along with junior ministers for foreign affairs, education, and housing.
