Cairo, Egypt – October 20, 2024 – The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially certified Egypt as malaria-free. This significant achievement marks the elimination of a disease that has plagued the country for centuries.
The WHO grants malaria-free certification to countries that have successfully interrupted the transmission of malaria parasites by Anopheles mosquitoes for at least three consecutive years. Egypt has met this stringent criteria, demonstrating its commitment to public health and disease control.
With this certification, Egypt joins a select group of 44 countries and one territory worldwide that have eradicated malaria.
