Pretoria, South Africa – October 15, 2024 – The Hawks, South Africa’s elite crime-fighting unit, have clarified that their investigation into the citizenship status of former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina is still in its early stages and has not focused on any specific individuals.
Rumors surfaced two months ago when the home affairs department revealed in parliament that the Hawks were investigating Adetshina’s citizenship. The department had found preliminary evidence suggesting potential identity theft.
Adetshina, born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, has been at the center of the controversy.
Hawks spokesperson Brig Thandi Mbambo stated, “We cannot confirm an investigation against anyone until the person has been formally charged. Currently, we are investigating a corruption case referred to us by the home affairs department.”
Mbambo emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and the timeline for its completion remains uncertain. She added, “The investigation is still in its infancy stage.”
