Abuja, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully recovered $180,300 and 53 vehicles from Nigerian fraudsters and returned them to their rightful Canadian owners.
The recovered assets, which include $164,000 belonging to Elena Bogomas and $16,300 belonging to Sandra Butler, were the result of a joint operation between the EFCC and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The 53 vehicles were stolen in Canada, shipped to Nigeria, and distributed across the country by criminal elements.
At a handover ceremony in Abuja, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration between the two agencies, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to combating fraud and corruption.
“This operation demonstrates Nigeria’s intolerance of financial crime and our dedication to working with international partners to address this global issue,” Olukoyede stated. “The RCMP has been a valuable ally in our fight against cybercrime, and their commitment has led to significant recoveries.”
The EFCC boss highlighted the transnational nature of financial crimes and the importance of international cooperation in combating them. “These crimes are borderless and boundless, requiring a coordinated global response,” he said. “By working together, we can effectively investigate, pursue, recover, prosecute, and restitute victims of fraud.”
