Abuja, Nigeria – Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic and Amavubi of Rwanda, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hired the services of a fitness trainer from Slovenia, Tomaz Zorec for the national team, Super Eagles. The NFF disclosed this while announcing the appointment of a caretaker technical crew on Monday via its website.
Zorec holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from the University of Primorska. He has been working as the Head of Academy Strength and Conditioning at NK Maribor since January 2023, leading the S&C department and overseeing the S&C work predominantly from U-14 to U-19 teams. Zorec as also been serving as an Assistant Football Coach of the U-15 Slovenian National Team since June 2021, working under the Head Coach Muamer Vudgalić.
The Nigeria footbal governing body stated that interim manager Augustine Eguavoen selected Enugu Rangers’ head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars to serve as his assistants for the important clashes. The body added that Abiodun Baruwa will continue his role as goalkeeper trainer, while Eboboritse Uwejamomere will serve as match analyst. The NFF stated that Zorec and other appointees will assist Eguavoen to plot the downfall of the opponents.
Meanwhile, as at press time seven players have already arrived the team’s camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. They are, Captain William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Olisah Ndah, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Taiwo Awoniyi.
According to the NFF, the Super Eagles will depart for Kigali on Sunday, for Tuesday’s AFCON 2025 Qualifiers Matchday 2 clash with the Amavubi (Bees) of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium, starting from 3pm Rwanda time (2pm Nigeria time).
