ADDIS ABABA, Sept 1 – Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie has called for increased cooperation among countries in the Horn of Africa to counter the threat posed by the Al-Shabaab militant group in Somalia.
Addressing journalists in Addis Ababa, the minister warned that Al-Shabaab remains a significant security threat to the region, capable of carrying out devastating attacks. He emphasized the need for greater unity and collaboration among regional nations to combat the terrorist group and protect their citizens.
Ethiopia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia in its fight against Al-Shabaab, offering military assistance and other forms of support to the Somali National Army. The minister stressed the importance of enabling the SNA to become self-sufficient in addressing security challenges within the country.
He also urged regional countries to remain vigilant against external forces seeking to undermine the progress made in combating terrorism. By working together, the minister believes that the region can effectively counter the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and maintain peace and stability.
