Nairobi, Kenya – The High Level Mediation for South Sudan, led by Chief Mediator Lieutenant General Lazaro Sumbeiywo (Retired), held a productive meeting with President Salva Kiir Mayardit during the latter’s official visit to Kenya for the launch of the African Union Chairmanship.
The mediation team provided a detailed update on the progress of the mediation process, highlighting recent achievements and the remaining challenges. President Kiir commended the Mediators, Parties, and Stakeholders for their ongoing commitment to peace and offered valuable insights.
The President emphasized the importance of inclusivity and sustainable solutions in achieving lasting peace in South Sudan. All participants expressed a strong desire to advance the peace process and discussed opportunities for increased cooperation to strengthen mediation efforts.
