Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her South Sudanese counterpart, Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in South Sudan.
Minister Kamikawa emphasized the importance of South Sudan’s stability for the peace and security of the Horn of Africa. She announced Japan’s decision to provide food assistance to address the country’s severe food crisis and reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s development efforts.
Minister Goc expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and expressed his expectations for further strengthening bilateral relations, including through increased Japanese investment.
Minister Kamikawa stressed the importance of holding peaceful elections in South Sudan as a crucial step in consolidating democracy. Minister Goc affirmed the South Sudanese government’s commitment to conducting elections and expressed gratitude for Japan’s cooperation.
The two ministers agreed to further develop Japan-South Sudan relations ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference.
