Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Nigerian counterpart, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation.
Minister Kamikawa recalled her visit to Nigeria in April and expressed her desire to deepen business and economic ties, particularly in the area of startups. She also highlighted the need for initiatives focused on women’s empowerment and peacebuilding, drawing on her observations during her visit.
Minister Tuggar welcomed the concrete outcomes of the TICAD process and expressed gratitude for Japan’s cooperation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
Japan and Nigeria agreed to further deepen their partnership ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference. The two countries are committed to working together on a range of issues, including economic development, women’s empowerment, and regional stability.
