Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Beninese counterpart, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, to discuss bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Minister Kamikawa praised Benin’s stable economic management and its growing attractiveness to Japanese businesses seeking to tap into the Francophone African market. She emphasized the importance of Japan’s relationship with Benin and expressed her desire to strengthen bilateral ties.
Minister Bakari welcomed the increased interest from Japanese companies and expressed his expectations for further enhancing economic cooperation. He also expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and outlined the reforms Benin is implementing to improve its business environment.
Japan announced its plans to support Benin’s electric power sector and improve sanitation and hygiene conditions for displaced persons in the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea regions. These initiatives aim to promote green growth and contribute to regional stability.
The two ministers agreed to further deepen Japan-Benin relations and explore opportunities for cooperation in international affairs, such as Security Council reform and the situations in Ukraine and North Korea.
