Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Ghanaian counterpart, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in West Africa.
Minister Kamikawa highlighted Ghana’s importance as a partner for Japan in areas such as business, health, and peacebuilding. She also commended Ghana’s collaboration with Japan as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council last year.
Minister Botchwey expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and praised Minister Kamikawa’s efforts to promote women’s leadership in peace and security.
The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges, including promoting women’s empowerment and stabilizing the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea regions. They also agreed to enhance economic ties and collaborate on international issues such as Security Council reform and the situations in Ukraine and North Korea.
Japan and Ghana reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening their bilateral relationship ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference.
