Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Chadian counterpart, Abderaman Koulamallah, to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
Minister Kamikawa commended Chad for holding a peaceful presidential election and expressed optimism about the country’s ongoing democratic transition. She also acknowledged Chad’s significant role in regional stability, particularly in hosting a large number of refugees from Sudan.
Japan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Chad’s development and humanitarian efforts. Minister Kamikawa expressed Japan’s willingness to continue providing assistance to the country, including through the establishment of an honorary consulate.
Minister Koulamallah thanked Japan for its support and outlined the challenges faced by Chad, including the refugee crisis and the need for women’s empowerment in peace and security efforts.
The two ministers agreed to further deepen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for cooperation in international affairs, such as Security Council reform and the situations in Ukraine and North Korea.
