Japan, ECOWAS Strengthen Cooperation

Tokyo, Japan – State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kiyoto Tsuji met with Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), on August 23 to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation. The meeting took place ahead of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting.

Minister Tsuji expressed his appreciation for ECOWAS’ leadership in promoting economic integration in West Africa. In response, Vice President Tchintchibidja acknowledged Japan’s contributions to ECOWAS and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to economic integration, peace, and stability in the region.

Both sides agreed to continue working together to strengthen connectivity in West Africa and to promote peace, stability, and economic cooperation. They also confirmed their commitment to further deepening Japan-ECOWAS relations in the lead-up to TICAD 9.
