Mbabane, Eswatini – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has launched Eswatini’s first-ever Schools National Basketball Tournament. The tournament features 37 public and private schools from across the country and is sponsored by the Taiwan Embassy to Eswatini to the tune of E100,000.
“This tournament is not just a competition; it is a celebration of youth, talent, and potential,” said Prime Minister Dlamini. “It is an opportunity for our pupils to showcase their skills, to push their limits, and to inspire others.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of combining sports with academic success to create well-rounded individuals. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Taiwan for their generous sponsorship, which will provide better facilities, training, and opportunities for young athletes.
“Who knows, from this tournament, we could just give birth to the next incredible NBA baller,” said Prime Minister Dlamini, referring to Eswatini’s own Jama Mahlalela, who plays for the Golden State Warriors.
In addition to the main tournament, Instacash has sponsored the Schools National U-17 Basketball team to the tune of E21,000. The team will represent Eswatini at the upcoming Confederation of Southern African School Sports Associations (COSASSA) Games in Zimbabwe.
