Abuja, Nigeria – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Monday announced the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates in Nigeria. The examination body via its X account stated that the result was officially been released on August 12, 2024.
WAEC’s Head of Nigeria Organisation, Amos Dangut in a statement on Monday described the exam, the first conducted under his term as a success. He announced that the results of 1,685,889 candidates, accounting for 93.9 per cent were released while 119,327 candidates, representing 6.61 percent have some subjects still being processed.
Dangut disclosed that the results of 215,267 candidates (representing 11.92 percent of the total) are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractices. According to him, this amounts to a 4.37 percent decrease from the 16.29 percent recorded in the 2023 WASSCE.
Speaking on the overall performance of candidates, he revealed that 73.79% of candidates earned credit or higher in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics. This equates to 1,332,089 candidates out of the total number 1,805,216 who took the examination.
WAEC urged candidates to access their results, by log on to https://waecdirect.org. The 2024 WASSCE took place over seven weeks and six days, from April 30 to June 2024. A total of 1,814,736 candidates from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria registered for the examination.
