Zambian Foreign Minister, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, has been a driving force for African cooperation during the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union in Accra, Ghana.
Haimbe met with various counterparts, reaffirming Zambia’s strong relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and vowing to continue collaborating closely. Discussions with Zimbabwe’s Foreign Minister Shava centered on mutual interests and offering support for each other’s bids in international organizations.

Minister Haimbe’s productive talks extended to Lesotho’s Foreign Minister Mpotjoana, where they addressed key issues including candidacies in international organizations. Mpotjoana also commended Zambia’s successful hosting of a recent Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting.

Namibia’s Foreign Minister Mushelenga and Haimbe discussed strengthening bilateral ties and collaborating at multilateral levels. The positive relationship between Zambia and Burundi was highlighted during Haimbe’s meeting with Burundian Foreign Minister Shingiro. They pointed to the recent signing of five agreements aimed at increasing trade and investment between the two nations. Haimbe also conveyed President Hichilema’s anticipation of handing over the chairmanship of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) to Burundi’s President Ndayishimiye at an upcoming summit.

Minister Haimbe is expected to lead the Zambian delegation through the remainder of the African Union meeting on July 21st.
