Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, concluded a working visit to Cyprus on Wednesday, aiming to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
Ghana and Cyprus have enjoyed friendly relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1989. Botchwey’s visit underscored a commitment to deepening that connection, particularly in trade and investment.
During her stay, Botchwey met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos. Discussions focused on potential for collaboration on both bilateral and multilateral fronts.
Recognizing the Commonwealth’s role in addressing global challenges, Botchwey and her Cypriot counterparts explored avenues for enhanced engagement within the organization.
The visit also served as a platform for Botchwey to promote her candidacy for Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. She outlined her vision for a transformed Commonwealth Secretariat, better equipped to support vulnerable member states through a development cooperation model focused on resilience-building.
