A delegation from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) visited Lesotho on June 26th and 27th, 2024, to assess progress on the country’s ongoing reform process.
The delegation, known as the SADC Panel of Elders’ Oversight Committee, comprised prominent figures including former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and former Mauritian Vice-President Paramasivum Pillay. They were joined by Ambassador Molosiwa Selepeng, a member of the SADC’s Mediation Reference Group, and officials from the SADC Secretariat.
During their visit, the committee held consultations with key stakeholders in Lesotho to gain a firsthand understanding of the reform process. These consultations likely involved discussions with government officials, opposition parties, and civil society organizations.
The SADC has been actively involved in supporting Lesotho’s reform efforts, which aim to address political instability and strengthen democratic institutions.
