Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a delegation from Africa50 and Africa Health Networks (AHN) on Wednesday to discuss investment in the country’s health sector, particularly dialysis infrastructure.
The discussions, led by James Kiiru, Director of the African Union, Regional and Continental Organisations at the Ministry, highlighted the critical need to improve access to dialysis care in Kenya. Currently, only 1 in 5 Kenyans have access to this life-saving treatment.
Both parties recognized the urgency of addressing this challenge and expressed a commitment to working collaboratively. The meeting also explored ways to achieve the goals of Kenya’s Universal Health Care (UHC) program through sustainable strategies.
The AHN delegation, led by Group CEO & Director Matt Williams, presented proposals on potential areas of collaboration. These included increasing access to affordable healthcare, upskilling healthcare professionals, fostering global innovation, and promoting investment and community development.
Director Kiiru pledged to follow up on these proposals and connect Africa50 and AHN with relevant government agencies to move forward with potential partnerships.
