The Czech Republic Embassy in Nigeria has awarded a grant to Jos Repertory Theatre for a unique project aimed at strengthening civil society’s role in promoting peace and preventing violence.
Deputy Ambassador Mrs. Hana Trousilová signed the contract on May 6th with Mr. Patrick-Jude Oteh, the theatre’s director. Oteh is known for his innovative approach, using theatre and improvisation to address social issues like trauma and violence.
The project will target representatives from across Nigeria through a combination of online and in-person workshops. These workshops will utilize theatre as a powerful tool to build resilience within civil society organizations.
This isn’t Oteh’s first foray into Czech works. His theatre company has previously staged productions of several acclaimed Czech plays, including “The Conquest of the North Pole” by Jara Cimrman, Karel Čapek’s “R.U.R.,” an adaptation of Karel Jaromír Erben’s “Bouquet,” and Václav Havel’s “Audience,” which the company even performed in Prague.
