China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced on Thursday that President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea will embark on a state visit to China from May 26th to 31st. This trip is expected to significantly strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
The visit comes at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Wang highlighted the deep and enduring relationship China shares with Equatorial Guinea, built on mutual respect and support since establishing diplomatic ties over 50 years ago. He noted the steady progress in practical cooperation and deepening political trust in recent years, which has demonstrably benefitted both countries.
President Obiang is considered a close friend of the Chinese people. During his visit, President Xi will host a welcoming ceremony and banquet in his honor. The two leaders are expected to hold talks and witness the signing of cooperative agreements.
Premier Li Qiang and National People’s Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji are also scheduled to meet with President Obiang. The itinerary includes a visit to China’s Shandong Province.
