Kampala, Uganda (May 13, 2024) – Uganda Airlines has announced the lease of a mid-range A320 aircraft to address growing demand and maintain operational efficiency. The short-term agreement with Johannesburg-based Global Airlines comes as some of Uganda Airlines’ existing CRJ fleet undergoes scheduled maintenance.
“This partnership with Global Airlines will support our operations at a critical time,” said Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki. “We’ve seen significant growth on several routes, putting pressure on our current capacity. Leasing this A320 ensures we can continue offering exceptional service to our customers while providing more flexibility.”
The 160-seater A320 features a two-class cabin with 12 business class and 138 economy seats. This additional capacity will specifically address limitations previously encountered on popular routes to Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Nairobi, and Lagos.
The leased aircraft also comes with its own pilots and cabin crew, ensuring minimal disruption to Uganda Airlines’ existing operations. The increased cargo capacity will further benefit businesses and travelers alike.
