Liberia will observe Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, as National Unification Day, a national holiday announced by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. This declaration upholds a 1960 act by the Liberian Legislature that established May 14th as a day to celebrate the country’s Unification and Integration Policy.
The proclamation highlights the policy’s positive impact on national development, particularly in economic, educational, communication, and social spheres. It credits the policy with fostering national unity by ensuring representation from all regions in government.
President Boakai acknowledged the nation’s past civil strife and emphasized the importance of embracing the Unification Act’s ideals to maintain peace and unity. He reiterated the government’s commitment to principles of justice, equality, and fair opportunity for all Liberians, regardless of background.
