Nigerian Afropop star Ayra Starr is ready to turn up the volume with her highly anticipated sophomore album, “The Year I Turned 21,” dropping on May 31st.
The 21-year-old singer unveiled the album’s artwork on Wednesday, showcasing her in a glamorous pose next to a red convertible. She also revealed the tracklist, boasting a total of 14 songs and exciting collaborations.
Fans can look forward to features from fellow music powerhouses Asake (“Goodbye (Warm Up)”), Anitta and Coco Jones (“Woman Commando”), Giveon (“Last Heartbreak Song”), Seyi Vibez (“Bad Vibes”), and Milar (“1942”). Ayra Starr’s previously released hits “Commas” and “Rhythm & Blues” will also be included on the album.
Speaking to Billboard News in February, Starr hinted at the album’s evolution. “The Ayra Starr I want to introduce is excellent, sonically amazing,” she stated. “This album is unique, because I’ve been evolving sonically.”
“The Year I Turned 21” arrives three years after her critically acclaimed debut album, “19 & Dangerous,” which included the smash hit “Rush” (nominated for Best African Music Performance at this year’s Grammys) and the popular track “Bloody Samaritan” (later remixed by Kelly Rowland).
Starr recently teamed up with Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro on the sizzling “Santa,” currently at No. 13 on Hot Latin Songs and making waves on the global charts.
