San Jose, CA – Samsung fired a salvo in the smartphone war today, unveiling its Galaxy S24 series packed with cutting-edge AI features, aiming to reclaim the top spot from Apple. The flagship S24 Ultra, starting at $1,299 and shipping on January 31st, boasts an arsenal of intelligent tools designed to streamline the user experience and push the boundaries of mobile technology.

One headline feature is the S24 Ultra’s real-time foreign language translation for both calls and texts. Available in 13 languages and powered by Samsung’s own AI, this on-device functionality eliminates the need for third-party apps and clunky copy-pasting.

Partnering with Google, the S24 also introduces a revolutionary search function powered by AI. Gone are the days of tedious app-switching and cumbersome text selection. Users can simply circle any phrase or image on the screen to initiate a comprehensive search, seamlessly integrated within the existing interface.

This AI prowess extends to the camera as well. Generative AI technology empowers users to fill in or remove unwanted backgrounds, adding a whole new dimension to smartphone photography. These features leverage both on-device and cloud processing, with some powered by Google’s Gemini AI model, the same technology behind the popular Bard chatbot.

Samsung’s focus on innovation isn’t limited to software. The S24 series boasts a sturdy titanium frame, mirroring Apple’s iPhone 15, promising enhanced durability and a premium feel.

Just days ago, industry data revealed Apple dethroned the South Korean tech giant after a 12-year reign as the world’s top smartphone seller. In 2023, Apple shipped 234.6 million iPhones, compared to Samsung’s 226.6 million units.
