The earlier election for the position of Senate President resulted in Senator Godswill Akpabio securing a resounding victory over Senator Abdulaziz Yari. The former Governor of Akwa Ibom emerged triumphant with 63 votes, surpassing Senator Yari’s tally of 46 votes.

In a subsequent ceremony, Senator Akpabio was duly sworn in as the President of the Senate for the 10th National Assembly, assuming the mantle of leadership from Senator Ahmad Lawan, who also served as a member of the 10th Senate.

With the key positions now filled, Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly stands poised to address pressing issues and navigate the legislative challenges ahead. The newly appointed leaders, Senator Akpabio as President of the Senate and Senator Barau as Deputy Senate President, bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles, ensuring a dynamic and effective legislative session.
