With the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on Monday, the Labour Party has called upon its supporters and all Nigerians to express their passions and frustrations within the boundaries of the law. The party maintains its belief that justice will prevail in due time.
In a statement released on Sunday, Labour Party Chairman Julius Abure criticized the election that resulted in Tinubu’s victory under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner, citing irregularities. Abure acknowledged that despite reports of violence and malfunctioning electoral devices, the accreditation and voting process proceeded relatively smoothly.
However, Abure expressed concern over the withholding of the correct password required to transmit the Presidential Election results electronically and instantly, as specified by the law and emphasized by Professor Mahmood Yakubu and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He alleged that votes cast for the Labour Party candidate were tampered with, resulting in an increase in votes for the APC’s Presidential Candidate.
The party stressed that Nigerians deserve a government that can effectively manage the country with sincerity, creativity, and discipline. They called for a government that can alleviate the challenges faced by families in meeting their basic needs and combat rampant corruption while rebuilding national institutions.
The matter is currently before the presidential petitions tribunal, and the Labour Party has affirmed its commitment to pursuing a lawful and logical resolution. They emphasized their responsibility to the Nigerian people and their trust in the party’s presidential ticket, consisting of Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
The Labour Party’s message remains one of peaceful expression and the pursuit of justice as the nation moves forward under the new administration.
