President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation one day before his departure from power. Expressing gratitude to Nigerians, the President reflected on his administration’s key decisions and expressed his belief that he is leaving the country in a better state than when he assumed office.

During his address, President Buhari commended the Nigerian people for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. He acknowledged the significance of the peaceful transition of power from one democratically elected government to another, marking a continuous stride towards improving and sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.

The President emphasized the importance of building upon the progress made in the electoral process, urging all Nigerians to work together to strengthen the nation’s democracy. He called on political parties and candidates to accept the decisions of the courts, fostering unity and a shared commitment to building a better Nigeria.

In a special message to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a long-time political ally and fellow worker, President Buhari congratulated him on the realization of his dream to lead Nigeria towards becoming one of the world’s leading nations. Acknowledging Tinubu’s commitment to excellence, fairness, and loyalty to the country, President Buhari expressed confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria to greater heights.

Reflecting on the past eight years of his administration, President Buhari highlighted the achievements and challenges faced during his tenure. He emphasized the resilience of the Nigerian economy, particularly in the face of global economic downturns and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The President underscored his commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians, creating opportunities for the poor and rural populations, supporting the private sector, and prioritizing infrastructure development.

President Buhari expressed regret for any temporary hardships caused by the necessary measures taken to revamp the economy. He recognized the need to enhance security and highlighted the progress made in reducing incidences of banditry, terrorism, and armed robbery. The President called on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and uphold the values of unity and collective responsibility to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.

In his relentless pursuit to eradicate corruption, President Buhari celebrated the repatriation of illicitly acquired funds and the recovery of properties obtained through corrupt practices. He highlighted ongoing civil service reforms aimed at creating a more efficient, productive, and citizen-oriented federal civil service.

Internationally, President Buhari noted the increasing influence of Nigeria and its citizens in global leadership positions, demonstrating the nation’s growing prominence on the world stage.

As President Buhari concludes his term and returns to his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, he expressed his fulfillment in initiating the journey of Nigeria’s rebirth. He expressed confidence in the incoming administration to accelerate the progress already achieved, guiding Nigeria towards fulfilling its destiny as a great nation.
