Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has denied his involvement in a leaked phone conversation with Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide. The audio clip was published by an online medium, causing tensions between Obi’s supporters, known as Obidients, and his political opponents.
While Oyedepo denied campaigning for any politician or speaking on any group’s behalf, Obi did not publicly comment until two days later, responding to allegations made by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture.
On Wednesday, Obi rejected the authenticity of the audio clip on Twitter, emphasizing that he consistently focused on an issue-based campaign while pursuing a new Nigeria characterized by inclusion, justice, equity, fairness, and prosperity.
He denounced what he described as present attempts by the All Progressives Congress and the APC-led government to divert attention from their allegedly stolen mandate.
Obi urged all concerned Nigerians and the international community to implore the APC and the APC-led government to stop their “nasty attacks.” He noted that his focus and commitment to lawfully and peacefully retrieve their mandate remain unchanged.
