Windhoek, Namibia – A high-level meeting this week between senior officials from Russia and Namibia has laid the groundwork for deeper economic and trade cooperation. On December 8th, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yury Trutnev and Namibia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, met in Windhoek to co-chair the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on trade and economic cooperation.

The discussions covered a wide range of potential collaboration areas, including vital sectors like subsoil use, mining, nuclear energy, industry, agriculture, healthcare, and education. Both sides acknowledged the IGC’s pivotal role as the main engine driving economic ties between the two nations, emphasizing the need to further energize its activities.

The meeting served as a platform to evaluate progress on action items outlined during the previous IGC session in December 2021 and paved the way for the upcoming 10th session, scheduled for March 2024 in Moscow. To solidify the agreements reached, the co-chairs signed a formal protocol document at the conclusion of the talks.
