Harare, Zimbabwe – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Zimbabwe has welcomed Dr. Ayodele Odusola as its new Resident Representative. Dr. Odusola presented his credentials to Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Frederick Shava, on November 17, 2023.

A seasoned development professional with over two decades of experience, Dr. Odusola brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. Prior to joining UNDP Zimbabwe, he served as the UNDP Resident Representative and inaugural Director of the Africa Sustainable Finance Hub in South Africa. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in steering UNDP’s pioneering efforts towards shaping a sustainable future for Africa.

Before his South African posting, Dr. Odusola served as Chief Economist and Head of the Strategy and Analysis Team for UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA). During his tenure, he coordinated economic, social, and environmental development initiatives across the continent. His leadership in preparing regional flagship reports, strategic policy notes, and policy papers on critical issues like fiscal space, youth employment, value chain development, renewable energy, and climate change made significant contributions to Africa’s development agenda.

A prolific author, Dr. Odusola has authored over 100 publications, including books, journals, policy briefs, and technical reports. His notable work, Africa’s Agricultural Renaissance: From Paradox to Powerhouse (Palgrave Macmillan 2021), provides insightful perspectives on Africa’s agricultural transformation.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

As UNDP Zimbabwe’s Resident Representative, Dr. Odusola is committed to collaborating with the Government of Zimbabwe, civil society, and the private sector to accelerate the country’s development journey. He is particularly focused on supporting Zimbabwe’s efforts to expand renewable energy options, facilitate re-engagement and debt resolution efforts, build resilient and sustainable health systems, and invest in sustainable, climate-smart agricultural practices.
