Paramaribo, Suriname – Suriname President Chan Santokhi has embarked on a historic visit to Saudi Arabia to participate in the upcoming CARICOM summit. The summit, scheduled for November 16-17, is expected to focus on strengthening ties between CARICOM member states and Saudi Arabia, as well as addressing pressing global issues such as climate change, oil and gas, developments in the Middle East, and the international economic situation.
“This visit marks a historical highlight,” President Santokhi stated in a recent address. “The meetings will provide an opportunity for our country to strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties, while also addressing important issues that impact our region and the world.”
Suriname’s participation in the summit is particularly significant given its large Muslim community, which adds further value to the relationship with Saudi Arabia. The summit is expected to bring together all 14 CARICOM leaders, fostering functional cooperation and collaboration on various matters.
“My presence at this summit is necessary to ensure that Suriname’s voice is heard and its interests are represented,” President Santokhi emphasized. “Together, we can achieve much more for our beloved country.”
