Ghana and Switzerland held their 8th Political Consultations on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra, Ghana. The consultations provided a platform for the two countries to discuss issues of mutual interest and to explore new areas of cooperation.
The Chief Director for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, Ambassador Ramses Cleland, and the Head of Sub-Saharan Africa and Francophonie Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Ambassador Philipp Stalder, led the respective delegations.
The discussions focused on three main thematic sectors: bilateral relations, regional matters, and multilateral issues. Specific topics discussed included COP27, economic relations, trade and investment promotion, cooperation in the cocoa sector and mining industry, education, health, human rights, peace and security, and cooperation with regional and sub-regional organizations such as the African Union, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and capacity building.
Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening their bilateral relations and working together to address global challenges. Ambassador Cleland emphasized the importance of the MOU on Cooperation and Policy Consultations between Ghana and Switzerland, which he said has been instrumental in establishing a platform for consistent political and economic discussions between the two countries. Ambassador Stalder reiterated Switzerland’s commitment to enhancing its relationship with Ghana, particularly in areas of common interest such as climate change, peace and security, education, and health.
The 8th Ghana-Switzerland Political Consultations were a productive and successful engagement that will further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
