The Kingdom of Lesotho and the Dominican Republic established formal diplomatic relations at the ambassador level on November 2, 2023. The announcement was made after the signing of a communique by H.E. Matete ‘Nena, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Lesotho to the United Nations, on behalf of the Lesotho government, and H.E. Jose Alfonso Blanco Conde, the Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, on behalf of his country.
The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries paves the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, including tourism, economic development, and diplomatic consultations.
The Dominican Republic is the second largest and most diverse Caribbean country, known for its warm and hospitable people, astounding nature, intriguing history, and rich culture. It is also a renowned tourism destination.
The Lesotho government has expressed its optimism about the potential benefits of the new diplomatic relationship with the Dominican Republic. In a statement, the Lesotho government said that it is “confident that the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries will further strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between our two peoples and governments.”
The Dominican Republic government has also expressed its satisfaction with the establishment of diplomatic relations with Lesotho. In a statement, the Dominican government said that it is “looking forward to working closely with the government of Lesotho to promote bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, including tourism, economic development, and diplomatic consultations.”
