Gambia Wins Best Active Tourism Award at FITUR 2023

The Gambia has won the Best Active Tourism Award at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2023 for its International Roots Homecoming Festival.

The award recognizes tourism development and promotion in adventure tourism, culture, nature, food and wine, accessibility, and the environment.

The International Roots Homecoming Festival is a week-long event that celebrates the Gambian diaspora and their return to the country. The festival features a variety of activities, including cultural performances, historical tours, and outdoor adventures.

The award was presented to His Excellency Noah Touray, the Gambian ambassador in Spain, at a ceremony in Madrid.

“We are honored to receive this award,” said Touray. “The International Roots Homecoming Festival is a unique event that celebrates our culture and heritage. It is also a great opportunity to showcase the Gambia as a tourist destination.”

The Gambia is a small country in West Africa that is known for its beautiful beaches, lush forests, and friendly people. The country is also home to a number of historical and cultural attractions, including the James Island World Heritage Site and Kunta Kinteh Island.

The Gambian government is committed to developing tourism as a key sector of the economy. The country has a number of initiatives in place to promote tourism, including the International Roots Homecoming Festival.

The Best Active Tourism Award is a prestigious award that recognizes the best active tourism products and destinations in the world. The award is presented by FITUR, the world’s leading tourism trade fair.
