Kigali, Rwanda – Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Vincent Biruta and his South Korean counterpart Jin Park signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on August 12, 2023, to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.

The first MoU on “Political Consultations” aims to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation between Rwanda and South Korea. The second MoU on “Framework Arrangement on Economic Development Cooperation Fund” will provide a framework for South Korea to provide financial assistance to Rwanda for economic development projects.

The signing ceremony was held in Kigali, Rwanda, during Minister Park’s two-day working visit to the country.

In a statement, Minister Biruta said that the signing of the MoUs was a “testimony of the genuine commitment” of the South Korean government to “nurture good bilateral ties with Rwanda.” He said that the MoUs would “enhance political and economic cooperation” between the two countries.

Minister Park, for his part, said that the MoUs were “a milestone in the development of our bilateral relations.” He said that South Korea was committed to “strengthening its cooperation with Rwanda in all areas.”

The two ministers also discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, agriculture, and tourism.

Minister Park also paid a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, where he laid a wreath in memory of the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
