Matekane Pledges Democracy, Good Governance, Economic Development

New Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoae Matekane spoke at the 43rd SADC Summit in Luanda, Angola, on August 17, 2023, in his maiden speech.

Matekane thanked SADC for its support in mediating the political challenges that Lesotho faced in the past, and said that the country was now committed to peace and stability.

He said that his government would focus on addressing the country’s economic challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment.

He also said that Lesotho would fully participate in the implementation of the African Free Trade Area Agreement.

Matekane concluded his speech by reaffirming his commitment to working closely with other SADC leaders to achieve regional integration and development.

The Prime Minister’s speech was well-received by the other SADC leaders, who expressed their support for his government.

The speech was also welcomed by the people of Lesotho, who are hoping that the new government will be able to address the country’s many challenges.

In his speech, Matekane pledged to uphold democracy, good governance, and the rule of law. He said that Lesotho was committed to peace and stability. He focused on addressing the country’s economic challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment.

He also said that Lesotho would fully participate in the implementation of the African Free Trade Area Agreement.
