President Ali Holds Productive Talks with Chinese Assistant Minister

Port of Spain, Trinidad – On Monday evening, July 3, 2023, His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali engaged in fruitful discussions with China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying, on the sidelines of the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The talks centered around various important matters concerning Guyana’s development and international partnerships.

Assistant Minister Hua Chunying extended her congratulations to President Ali on Guyana’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. She also commended the government’s dynamic role in spearheading the region’s food security initiatives, recognizing the efforts taken to address this critical issue. Additionally, Assistant Minister Chunying praised Guyana’s commendable climate mitigation efforts, highlighting the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

President Ali emphasized the longstanding strategic partnership between Guyana and China, emphasizing the active involvement of China in the country’s development endeavors. The President expressed his appreciation for China’s continued support and contributions to Guyana’s growth trajectory.

Looking ahead, President Ali announced his upcoming official State Visit to China at the end of July, further reinforcing the importance of bilateral relations and exploring avenues for enhanced collaboration.
