Port of Spain, Trinidad – On Tuesday, July 6, 2023, His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali engaged in a productive meeting with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo of South Korea during the CARICOM Heads of Government gathering held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The discussions primarily focused on exploring avenues to enhance cooperation and collaboration between the two nations.

Prime Minister Han began the meeting by extending his congratulations to President Ali on Guyana’s recent election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He expressed his government’s readiness to extend support to Guyana through an “economic cooperation framework” and by facilitating tailored educational initiatives to bolster the country’s technological advancements.

President Ali reciprocated the warm sentiments and acknowledged South Korea’s impressive progress in various sectors, attributing it to their highly skilled and developed human resources. The President emphasized his government’s commitment to driving advancements in crucial areas such as food security, energy security, and climate security.

During the meeting, President Ali expressed his government’s aspiration to strengthen government-to-government relations and foster deeper partnerships between the private sectors of Guyana and South Korea. The two leaders engaged in productive dialogue, exploring potential avenues for collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.
