LESOTHO – The Special Representative of the Government of the People’s Republic of China on African Affairs, Mr. LIU Yuxi, has embarked on an Official Tour of Duty in Africa during the month of July. As part of his visit, he arrived in the Kingdom of Lesotho on 5-6 July 2023. The purpose of his visit is to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Lesotho and China.
Mr. LIU Yuxi was warmly welcomed to Lesotho by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoana. Accompanied by H.E. Lei Kezhong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Lesotho, the Special Representative held a productive meeting with Minister Mpotjoana to discuss various issues of mutual interest.

During his time in Lesotho, Mr. LIU Yuxi has scheduled a Courtesy Call on The Right Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane. This meeting aims to further enhance the dialogue on bilateral cooperation between the two nations. The discussions will focus on key areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and development projects.
In addition to bilateral matters, the Special Representative will also address the implementation status of FOCAC (Forum on China-Africa Cooperation) projects in Africa, with a particular emphasis on Lesotho. This update will provide insights into the progress made and the future plans for collaboration between Lesotho and China.
Mr. LIU Yuxi is expected to engage in discussions on Taiwan, human rights, and the ongoing call for the reform of the United Nations Security Council.
