Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, has arrived in Ulaanbaatar to partake in a significant two-day gathering of female foreign ministers. The meeting, scheduled to commence today on Thursday, 29th June 2023, aims to address pressing global challenges and explore potential solutions.
This marks the first time Mongolia has hosted such an event, providing an auspicious occasion for female ministers to convene and engage in discussions regarding prevailing international issues. The primary focus of the meeting revolves around three specific topics: the Role of Women in Promoting Peace and Security, Climate Change, and Food Security.
Joining Minister Pandor in this gathering are esteemed representatives from various nations. Confirmed participants include ministers from Burkina Faso, Eswatini, France, Germany, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Liechtenstein. Austria, on the other hand, will be represented by its ambassador at Large on Gender Equality.
The event has also extended invitations to international organizations committed to fostering global progress. Among the esteemed invitees are the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Green Climate Fund, and the International Trade Centre. Their involvement is anticipated to contribute valuable insights and perspectives to the discussions.
Minister Pandor, in addition to her overall participation in the panel discussions, has been appointed as the moderator for the Food and Security panel. She will also seize the opportunity to deliver a statement on the way forward. With her expertise and experience, her contributions are expected to be instrumental in shaping the discussions surrounding food security.
Minister Pandor plans to utilize her visit to Mongolia for bilateral meetings with select counterparts. These meetings will facilitate enhanced diplomatic relations and foster collaborative efforts towards addressing shared challenges.
