The French Embassy in Suriname had the privilege of hosting the Director of the Americas and the Caribbean, Michele Ramis, as she embarked on her first official visit to the country. During her two-day stay, Ms. Ramis engaged in constructive discussions with key stakeholders, fostering bilateral relations between France and Suriname.
One of the highlights of her visit was an exchange of ideas with members of the National Assembly of Suriname (DNA) regarding the progress of various agreements and conventions between the two nations. This dialogue aimed to strengthen cooperation and collaboration in areas of mutual interest, laying the groundwork for further diplomatic ties.
Moreover, Michele Ramis seized the opportunity to meet with prominent figures in the Surinamese government, including Defence Minister Krishnakoemarie Mathoera and Foreign Affairs Minister Albert Ramdin. These meetings allowed for fruitful discussions on matters of regional security, economic partnerships, and ways to enhance cultural exchanges.
In an effort to deepen her understanding of the region’s dynamics, Ms. Ramis visited the Alliance Française of Suriname, where she interacted with the Surinamese military amid intensive French training activities. This visit underscored France’s commitment to supporting the Surinamese armed forces in their professional development.
Looking forward to promoting cultural ties and celebrating historical milestones, Michele Ramis expressed her excitement about attending the upcoming KetiKoti festivities. KetiKoti, the Emancipation Day celebration in Suriname, commemorates the abolition of slavery, symbolizing the shared struggle for freedom and human rights.
