Outgoing Belgian Ambassador bids farewell to Ghana

Accra, June 7, 2023 – The Kingdom of Belgium’s outgoing Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Michael Wimmer, paid a farewell visit to the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Honorable Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. The meeting marked a significant occasion to recognize the remarkable support received from the Government and People of Ghana during Ambassador Wimmer’s tenure, which greatly contributed to deepening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Ambassador Wimmer expressed his gratitude to Ghana for its immense support, which had been instrumental in strengthening the ties between Belgium and Ghana. He particularly commended Ghana for its cooperation with the Government of Belgium in various areas of mutual interest, specifically in economic trade relations. The outgoing Ambassador highlighted the significance of the collaborations and expressed optimism for the future of the partnership between the two nations.

In response, Honorable Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, praised Ambassador Wimmer for his outstanding efforts in fortifying the bilateral relations between Ghana and Belgium throughout his tenure. He reaffirmed Ghana’s unwavering commitment to enhancing cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of sustained collaboration between the two countries.

Honorable Ampratwum-Sarpong expressed appreciation for Belgium’s support, which played a pivotal role in Ghana’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term of January 2022 to December 2023. The Deputy Minister lauded the Government of Belgium for its assistance in vital sectors such as Education, Agriculture, Health, and Port Management and Operations, which have significantly contributed to Ghana’s development.

During the farewell meeting, Honorable Ampratwum-Sarpong also encouraged Ambassador Wimmer to continue advocating for Ghana’s interests wherever he may find himself. He conveyed his best wishes to the outgoing Ambassador in his future endeavors.
