Special envoy of President Mnangagwa strengthens bilateral relations with Lesotho

Lesotho, May 29, 2023 – Ambassador Simbarashe S. Mumbengegwi, the Special Envoy of His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, embarked on a visit to Lesotho on Monday, May 29, 2023. This diplomatic mission aimed to further enhance the bilateral relations between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Kingdom of Lesotho. Accompanying Ambassador Mumbengegwi were esteemed delegates, including Ambassador Errol E. Muzawazi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK), Dr. Partson Chikudza, Director in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr. Munetsi Bere, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Mr. Tinotenda Zamurira, Executive Assistant to INSTAK CEO, and Mr. Shadreck Haruzivi, the Special Envoy’s Aide.

During the visit, Ambassador Simbarashe S. Mumbengegwi had the privilege of engaging in crucial meetings with esteemed representatives of Lesotho. The Rt. Honourable the Prime Minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, and the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoana, were among the key officials with whom Ambassador Mumbengegwi held discussions. These meetings sought to facilitate constructive dialogue on matters of mutual interest and explore avenues for collaboration.

Formal diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and Lesotho were established in 1980, solidifying the foundation for friendship and cooperation between the two nations. Building upon this longstanding relationship, Ambassador Mumbengegwi’s visit served as an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of both countries to strengthening their ties even further. The discussions centered around key areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, agriculture, infrastructure development, and education.

During the meetings, Ambassador Mumbengegwi emphasized Zimbabwe’s eagerness to collaborate with Lesotho in order to foster economic growth and regional integration. Recognizing the importance of a closer partnership, both parties acknowledged the need to leverage their respective strengths for mutual benefit and shared progress.

The visit by Ambassador Mumbengegwi and his esteemed delegation represents a significant step toward deepening the friendship and cooperation between Zimbabwe and Lesotho. It is anticipated that this diplomatic engagement will pave the way for expanded collaboration, ultimately resulting in tangible outcomes and a strengthened partnership between the two nations.

As the Special Envoy’s visit concluded, the groundwork for enhanced bilateral relations had been laid, setting the stage for increased cooperation and shared prosperity in the future.
